Face height characters in the harmonious face of the group of Vietnamese students 18-25 age studying at school of Odonto - Stomatology

ABSTRACT

The harmonious face of the Vietnamese is the unique beauty contributed to the vitality and spirit of the nation. The standard index of the Caucasian is not suitable to apply for Vietnamese. Solving this problem, some researches must be conducted to investigate the craniofacial indexes and canon of Vietnamese facial harmony. There are many schools of different aesthetic analysis, however nowadays when analyzing the balance of the facial heights; we usually pay attention to three parts: forehead, nasal and sub nasal. According to neoclassical canons, those three parts are equal.

Objectives

The study was carried out on 143 students studying at the School of Odonto Stomatology to describe the characters of the face heights in the harmonious faces which are evaluated by Assembly method.

Methods

Research was designed in the cross-sectional descriptive method. All the subjects were taken front and lateral standardized photographs. The council including experts from anthropometric, aesthetic, orthodontics independently evaluate on a given scale to find harmonious faces. The photographs were measured with Image Pro Plus 5.0 software.

Results

49.2% male had harmonious faces while the rate of female was 37.5%, the ratio N-Sn/N-Gn was different from 0.43 in 87.3% male and 95% female.

Conclusion

There are no difference in size, rate and index in both genders, as well as between harmony and not harmony group. Major difference is in the lateral angles.
